Enroll in a Class

Please pay careful attention to the steps necessary to complete your class registration. Your registration is not complete until payment is received. Failure to make payment will result in a financial hold on your student account, preventing future registrations and access to transcripts.

Registration for fall classes is still open.

Registration for spring classes opens December 1.   

Registration closes 10 days prior to the start of your class.  For example, if your class starts on January 20, your registration must be received no later than January 10.  If the deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, we will consider the next business day as the deadline.  Please pay careful attention to these registration deadlines, as registrations will not be accepted after the deadline.   

We will no longer be able to accept registrations the day of the first class.

How to register for a class

Returning Students

If you registered for a class in Fall 2009, you should be able to use the Self-Service feature of SIS to register for your spring class.  Go to http://www.virginia.edu/sis  and log in to use Self-Service.  This option is currently unavailable to those students registering in courses offered through the  Curry School of Education (courses with the mnemonic EDHS, EDIS, EDLF) and the School of Engineering and Applied Science (courses with the mnemonic ChE, CE, EDE, MSE, MAE, SYS). To register for these classes, follow the instructions noted below.

If you did not register for a class in Fall 2009, or if you are registering for a class offered through the Curry School of Education or the School of Engineering and Applied Science, you must complete the steps for New Students. 

New Students

1. Complete both the Application for Permission to Enroll Form* and Class Registration Form. 
   
   *Individuals registering for noncredit classes do NOT need to complete the Virginia Status Information (pages 5-8) on the Application for Permission to Enroll Form. Complete ONLY pages 1-4.  Stop after page 4.  When you are ready to print the forms, set the print range for pages 1-4. 
   
   You will need to download these forms. The forms will be clickable PDFs.  
   
   It is advisable that you type your information using your computer and then print the forms.  You will not be able to save the completed forms on your computer.  It is recommended that you NOT print the form and handwrite your information.  
   
   If you do not have a computer, you are welcome to use one at one of our Regional Centers. 
   
    

2. Completed forms can be submitted to one of our Regional Centers:

   Phone registrations are no longer accepted.

How to complete your registration

Every student will receive an email with instructions for establishing access to the University’s online resources, including a U.Va. email account and access to SIS.  Failure to complete the steps outlined in the email may delay your enrollment in your class.  

Your U.Va. email account is the University’s official means of communication with you.   

Once you complete the steps to have access to SIS, you may be able to enroll for future semesters by using the online Student Center, depending on your program of study.
