Osher Reentry Scholarship Application,
Fall 2009

Supported by a generous gift from The Bernard Osher Foundation, Osher Reentry Scholarships at the University of Virginia are available to reentry students enrolled in the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies program with a significant gap in the pursuit of their undergraduate degree.  Scholarships will be awarded to a minimum of ten students annually. 

  Minimum qualifications are summarized below. 

To be eligible for an Osher Reentry Scholarship in the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) program:

  • Reentry students must have experienced a cumulative gap of five or more years between their first pursuit of an undergraduate degree and their current enrollment in BIS;
  • Students are at the undergraduate level and pursuing their first baccalaureate degree;
  • Students anticipate participation in the workforce for a significant period of time upon degree completion;
  • Students show academic promise and a commitment to obtaining their degree;
  • Students demonstrate financial need and submit their financial aid application directly to Student Financial Services at U.Va.

To apply for an Osher Reentry Scholarship, submit the following to the Osher Reentry Scholarship Committee, c/o Maria Chee, BIS Program, 106 Midmont Lane, PO Box 400764, Charlottesville, VA, 22904, or via email to mchee@virginia.edu:

  • Completed application form
  • A short statement (200-400 words) about why your college experience was interrupted, your reason for reentering undergraduate degree study, and your aspirations upon degree completion.

Applicants must submit a financial aid application directly to U.Va. Student Financial Services at P.O. Box 400204, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, 22904-4204.
