Part-Time Degree from
U.Va.
(Available in Charlottesville, at Tidewater Community College and Northern Virginia Community College)
The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) meets the needs of adult
students by offering part-time study with evening classes. Students planning
to apply
to the BIS program complete 60 transferable hours including core and
prerequisite requirements, and then transfer to finish their degrees at the
University of Virginia.
Classes are
offered year-round on University Grounds in Charlottesville and at
Tidewater
Community College as well as Northern Virginia Community College. Applicants for either off-Grounds program need to have earned at least
fifteen (15) transferable credits from the host community college.
The BIS
curriculum is one of the most original and intellectually challenging
educational programs available to part-time students. Designed to foster a
broad liberal studies education, the BIS degree program offers
concentrations in
business,
humanities, and
social sciences as well as an
education option for those interested in pursuing the Alternative Route
to Teacher Licensure in Virginia.
Among the most distinctive features of the BIS program are the
requirements for
admission
and the admission process. Students are not required to take standardized
exams such as the SAT for admission, and there is no foreign language
requirement. Admission counselors are available to meet with prospective
students and support their efforts to complete their undergraduate degrees
both before and after they enroll in the BIS program.
