Adjunct Faculty Academy
(Available online)
The Adjunct Faculty Academy consists of a series of noncredit online seminars especially designed for individuals holding advanced degrees who are interested in teaching at the college and university levels. Seminars consider strategies to:
- teach adults effectively
- integrate adult learning principles
- focus on expectations and challenges of teaching adults in academic settings
- obtain adjunct teaching opportunities.
The Adjunct Faculty Academy offers a way to explore this professionally rewarding career option and evaluate skills and abilities that serve as a prerequisite for the art and practice of teaching. All seminars are offered online and are facilitated by adult educators who are experienced U.Va. faculty. Each seminar is scheduled to begin on a Friday and end the following Friday using a one-week time period to maximize learning. Students should allocate at least four or more hours for each seminar through the week. Registration is required one week prior to the start date of each seminar to access the Blackboard platform.
Eight seminars are offered through the Academy. A certificate of completion is awarded to those individuals completing seven seminars. Four seminars will be offered each semester, allowing individuals to complete the certificate after two semesters.
