Online Course Design Overview and Checklist

1. Request a course shell from program administrator
2. Complete the tutorial Blackboard 101 
3. Create a syllabus
   ·   Organize course into modules 
   ·   Identify course materials and activates per module 
   ·   Use the Syllabus template provided in Preparing to Teach    
       Online or Teaching Resources 
4. Create your online course based on your syllabus 
5. Upload your syllabus to your online course 
6. Include your personal information under the Faculty Information Tab in your Course Menu 
7. Create your first course Announcement, which may be a welcome or reminder on an upcoming class meeting 
8. Put together a backup plan for course materials you upload and download from your online course 
9. Test your course materials to make sure they work. Contact Tech Support if needed.
10. Email students welcoming them to class and provide the following: 

·   Blackboard login instructions to help students access
    Blackboard 
·   The date and time the course will meet 
·   An explanation on how this course will be taught, and
    how much will be online and face to face 
·   Prerequisite skills 
·   Textbooks required 
·   Technical requirements 
·   An explanation on how to access the Syllabus 
·   A requirement that students complete the Orientation
    module, including Blackboard 101 for Students, and
    download any necessary software before the first
    class meeting 
·   A request that students respond to your email so that
    you can confirm that you are using their correct email
    address
