Methods for Teaching Exceptional Children

Course Description: This course is designed to inform students of currently advocated methods and instructional formats for teaching students with mild disabilities (e.g. mild to moderate mental retardation, learning disabilities, and emotional and behavioral disorders). The class content has been selected to work across disability areas and to promote access to the general education curriculum. This is the introductory methods course. At the completion of the course, each student will be able to develop and modify curricula offerings for mildly handicapped learners and will have gained competence in effective instructional procedures for working with these students across the grades of public school. Instructional competencies will be developed through simulations, group activities, lectures, readings, and individual assignments.
