Course Description: This course focuses on intervention techniques for accelerating the reading ability of struggling readers. Instructional methods are presented in four categories of literacy development: oral reading fluency, comprehension, word knowledge (phonics, spelling, decoding, and vocabulary), and writing. Assignments are practicum based. Students learn how to match instructional techniques to assessed areas of literacy needs and how to differentiate instruction for varying levels of reading achievement.
Notes and Comments: Prerequisite: Only students who took EDIS 573 prior to or during the spring 2008 semester can take this course. Course meets on Wednesdays, Sept 17-Dec 10(no class on Nov 26); from 4:30pm-8:00pm.
