Course Description: This course will explore composition within a gradual release of responsibility model of instruction. Course topics will include sentence level strategies (e.g., sentence scrambling, sentence imitating, sentence combining, sentence expanding) that will help elementary school writers understand different ways of writing and how our language is constructed. Text level strategies will be organized to identify models of genre in children's literature, read those models aloud, identify their components with children, model composition in that genre, and support children to generate that genre on their own using the writing process.
