Human Resources Management

Course Description: The objective of this course is to provide a firm foundation in the study of human resources from the perspective of a HR specialist as well as a practicing manager. Students will learn the objectives, policies and programs of human resource departments and the challenges they face in carrying out their expanding responsibilities; how they provide equal employment opportunities and add to the quality of work life; and how they recruit, select, train, develop, evaluate, and compensate people. Students will learn the contemporary role of human resource management in organizational life, current issues, and trends. Students passing Human Resource Management (HR 402) will have a firm understanding of each of the major functional areas of Human Resource Management. They will also have a good knowledge of the resources available to them for the further study of human resource management in the future. Finally, and most significantly, the students will have the confidence to speak constructively to executives in their organizations about better ways of managing their human resources.

Prerequisites: HR 401 required for students in certificate prog.
