Introduction to Creative Writing

Course Description: Have you always wanted to write, but unsure of how or where to begin? Learn the basic elements and techniques of creative writing in this beginner’s workshop. We will explore the fundamental elements of style and plot; how to develop characters and settings that leap off the page; the pros and cons of writing in the various points of view; how to write dialogue; and the use of metaphor. Both fiction and nonfiction will be covered. Brief lectures, discussions, close reading of examples from established writers to see what makes their writing compelling, writing exercises, and workshops will strengthen your ability to use written language for expression and communication.
