School Money Matters
Course Description: This one-hour graduate class addresses the major fiscal management responsibilities at the school level that a practicing school administrator encounters on a day-to-day basis in the course of the school year. Topics address basic internal control procedures for safeguarding school funds and property in order to fulfill the stewardship responsibility for 1) cash receipts l ( e.g., admission tickets, sale of merchandise, raffles, school store, and vending machines) 2) cash disbursements (e.g., credit cards, purchase orders, reimbursing staff, and payment of vendors, 3) internal control of funds ( e.g., school budget, bank reconciliation, transfers and adjustments, and 4) prevention of theft and embezzlement ( e.g., audits, separation of duties, and over reliance on staff).
