Course Description: This course provides a linguistic framework for those currently teaching and those preparing to teach adult second language learners. Included is an overview of the advantages and challenges unique to adult learners particularly in the cognitive and affective domains. Included will be an exploration of the theoretical components of language such as morphology, phonology, syntax, and semantics with application to adult ESL learners. Particular attention is given to psycholinguistics and second language acquisition. Theoretical models will provide support for best classroom practices in the area of teaching adult second language learners.
