Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies Degree

The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) degree is a degree-completion program offering a broad interdisciplinary education with evening, weekend, and online classes.


Choose from courses in Commercial Law, Marketing, Organizational Behavior, Managerial Finance, International Business, and more.

Liberal Arts

Combine courses from the Humanities--art, art history, architectural history, classics, literature, music, philosophy, and sociology and the Social Sciences--anthropology, economics, government, politics, history, psychology and sociology.

Propose a concentration comprised of 24 credits of upper-level courses tailored to an academic interest or theme. 

Available: Charlottesville

Individuals transfer to UVA as third-year students and complete at least 60 credit hours at UVA to earn the BIS degree.

    On average, students take two courses per term, including the summer, and take three to four years to complete the degree. Many are able to finish sooner, or some students choose to move more slowly, taking up to seven years. 
  • Admission Requirements

    Individuals with a high school diploma, or equivalency, awarded at least four years prior to admission to BIS are invited to apply. They will also need 60 transferable credit hours.

    Additional fees may apply, including course materials. Tuition rates are adjusted annually. 

    Eligible for Active Duty Military Rate of $250 per credit hour (in state and out of state) for online courses
