Master of Education, Administration and Supervision: Educational Leadership
(Available inSouth Boston- Danville through our University Center, and at our Hampton Roads, Northern Virginia, Richmond, and Roanoke Centers)
This state-approved program, offered through the University’s Curry School of Education, is designed for individuals seeking preK-12 endorsement in school administration and supervision, or an advanced degree, with or without endorsement.
Faculty from the Curry School designed this distinctive program and serve as student advisors. In addition to University faculty who teach the majority of the courses, instruction is further enhanced by accomplished school administrators selected by the University for their
professional expertise, practical experience, and understanding of what tomorrow’s leaders will need to know.
Participants may take courses for a professional development endorsement or pursue an advanced degree. The program is designed so
courses required for state endorsement can be completed in four to five semesters. Courses are offered at convenient times during the evening and/or
weekends, allowing students to balance work and academic schedules. Students may enroll in up to two courses before being admitted to a program.
Professional Development Endorsement: Intended for individuals who have a master’s degree and are seeking state endorsement and a position as principal, assistant principal, or central office supervisor. Students complete 30 credits from the list of core courses as well as a 3-credit administrative internship. Candidates must also successfully complete the School Leaders Licensure Assessment, which is the state proficiency exam.
Master’s Degree (M.Ed.): Students complete a total of 36 credits: 30 credits of required core courses, a 3-credit administrative internship, and 3 credits of an elective. Upon completion of the coursework, a comprehensive exam is required. In addition,
the School Leaders Licensure Assessment is required for state endorsement in preK-12 Administration and Supervision.
Education Specialist Degree (Ed.S.): Students complete a total of 30 credits of required coursework and a 3-credit administrative internship. A comprehensive exam is required.
