UVa Email for SCPS Adjunct Faculty 

Congratulations and welcome aboard!  Prior to your first day of instruction you will need to establish a UVa email account. Email is the official communication instrument for all students and instructors.  

About Your UVa Email  

Setting up a UVa Email account requires you to:

1. Obtain your UVa Computing ID
2. Obtain your UVa System Generated Password
3. Establish access to your UVa email

IMPORTANT: Whenever you are presented with a Netbadge Login Page you will use your Computing ID and System Generated Password 

You will need your UVa Computing ID and Password for the following:

• Authenticate into SIS to view rosters and submit grades
• Utilize Online Course Management Systems or UVa Collab for Online Evaluations.
• Login to your Blackboard Account (Coming soon)

Step 1: Obtaining Your UVa Computing ID 

As a new member of our Adjunct Faculty, a UVa Computing ID has been established for you.  Your computing ID will serve as your User Name for all UVa online services.

Your computing id will become your official UVa email address, for example: mtk3c@virginia.edu.  

To find your computing ID.

Enter your first and last name in the search field and click Search; if you are setup in the UVa system, a page will open with information about you. Part of the information is your UVa Computing ID. 

Please print this page and keep it with your other SCPS documents.

Faculty Search

Enter:  lastname, firstname or firstname lastname or Computing ID or phone number

Step 2: Obtaining Your UVa Password 

• Please read the Responsible Computing Handbook for Faculty and Staff
• Now go to the Responsible Computing Quiz (be sure to complete each step)

IMPORTANT: Be sure to record the System Generated Password accurately (passwords are case sensitive), be sure to set it aside in a place where you can easily find it in the future. If you ever forget your Password you can return to the Responsible Computing Quiz and recover it. 

Step 3 : Establishing  Access to Your UVa Email  

Choice 1) You can choose to read your UVa email from another account you already have.

For example your Official UVa address
computing id@virginia.edu can be routed to your personal Yahoo, Live, Gmail or any other active email account. Note if you use this option, pick an account you intend to have access too for a prolonged period of time. 

Choice 2) You can choose to setup a UVa Gmail account.

Your Official UVa address computing id@virginia.edu can be read through the UVa Gmail interface found at http://www.mail.virginia.edu/gmail  

Steps for Choice 1)

            Go to: https://ams.itc.virginia.edu/cgi-bin/prime_alias.cgi

• At the Netbadge Login page enter your computing ID and System Generated Password

• You will see “Your Primary U.Va Alias computing id@virginia.edu currently delivers to: computing id@virginia.edu”

• Click on the “Change this deliverable address”

• Click on “Assign to a NEW deliverable address”

• Type in the personal address where you want your UVa email to be delivered

• Click “Confirm Address”

• Be sure to Reply to the system generated email sent to your personal address to complete the routing process 

Steps for Choice 2)

UVa Gmail with Google Apps  

In addition to email and calendar, Gmail with Google Apps includes tools for online communication, collaboration, and publishing. 

• Request UVa Gmail Account (click this link, you will be taken to a Netbadge Login page,

• Enter your UVa Computing ID and the System Generated Password)

• After the Gmail account is created

• Login and finish the setup by following the instructions given on the webpage.

IMPORTANT: Bookmark this url for access to your UVa Gmail account http://www.mail.virginia.edu/gmail 

Forwarding your UVa Gmail account to another account  

If you chose to forward your UVa Gmail account to another personal account you already have;

you can do that in the Gmail interface by clicking on Settings and then Forwarding and POP/IMAP and enter the required information.
