Comments from educators on our past conferences...

The Skillful Mentor: Support that Enhances Professional Growth
October 1, 2008 - 8:00a to 3:00p
Zehmer Hall Conference Center

The Skillful Mentor: Support that Enhances Professional Growth is a leadership conference for teacher mentors and mentorship directors. This highly interactive one-day program can assist mentors refine and extend their toolkits. Read what various attendees had to say about their experience attending The Skillful Mentor Conference on October 8, 2008:

-Enthusiastic and optimistic; good ideas and insights; inspiring

-Kept the attention with real-life situations

-Relevant information presented in an engaging way! Liked the opportunity to hear the ideas of other school divisions.

-Great reminders of what our new teachers need, and that it is easy to
lose sight of many of those things that have become intuitive to us as veteran teachers.

-I learned a lot and will take some of your recommendations back to my schoolhouse and try them out with my teachers. Great energy level and presentation style.

-Informative; relevant; "made sense". Presented in an awesome manner. Kept my interest. Made me reflect. Created new ideas.

-Presentation exposed me to many things I will use with other mentors and mentees, such as talking to new teachers about teaching objectives, rather than dwelling on SOLs, exposing them to local programs in community in which we live, [etc.].

-Enjoyed the practicality of the conversation/presentation

-Down to earth presentation, valuable insights even though I have been
a mentor for many years

-Good information to think about generational differences between teachers/novices/mentors/etc. This would be an ongoing goal of mine to stay in tune with how these "newbies" grow and develop.
