Middle School Mathematics Licensure and Effective Mathematics Instruction - Preparing Highly Qualified Middle School Mathematics Teachers Across Virginia is a VaDOE MSP Title II Part B grant awarded in 2005 to PI Nancy Iverson with subsequent awards in 2006 totaling $ 780,000 to the University of Virginia, 7 higher education and 50 school division partners. The program enables teachers in grades six and seven and special education teachers to be classified as highly qualified and/or endorsed in middle school mathematics. The program supported the development of five mathematics courses with a statewide collective enrollment of 250 students.
- Virginia Middle Mathematics Project is a VaDOE MSP Title II Part B grant of $750,000 awarded in 2007 to the University of Virginia with PI Vickie Inge and 2 higher education and 31 school division partners. Middle school mathematics teachers and special education teachers in grades six and seven will deepen their understanding of middle school mathematics content and pedagogy, learn how middle school students learn the content, and learn to use the lesson study framework as a tool to analyze instructional effectiveness. The grant supports a 0.5 mathematics specialist position in 12 middle schools and a mathematics lead teacher in 45 middle schools to build site-based leadership capacity for Professional Learning communities in mathematics. The program is comprised of five mathematics content courses and a mathematics problems solving course. The grant anticipates a total collective enrollment of 400.
