Special Educators Highly Qualified Status
Middle and high school special education teachers can receive the highly qualified designation by participation in the series of middle school grant courses. They may also be classified as “highly qualified” by taking part in a Virginia Department of Education approved noncredit professional development program of 30 contact hours. SCPS designed and provided approved noncredit training to 70 Region 8 special educators in mathematics and an additional 230 educators in other core content areas.
