School Library Media Endorsement
Overview
Courses in the program meet the requirements for the Virginia Department of Education endorsement in PreK-12 Library Media. Students complete up to 15 undergraduate credits from the UVa College at Wise, in addition to 12 graduate credits offered through SCPS. Coursework can be completed in 18 months by enrolling in 2 classes per term. Courses are delivered in a mix of face-to-face, digital teleconference, and online modes.
Why School Library Media?
School librarians develop pedagogical order to multi-media information and communication by creating learning opportunities, in collaboration with classroom teachers, to help students use the virtual world, as well as traditional information sources, to prepare for learning, living, and working in the 21st century.
Who Should Enroll?
Courses are open to individuals who hold a valid five-year renewable teaching license in Virginia who wish to add an endorsement as a school library media specialist. Qualified applicants are admitted to the UVa College at Wise Endorsement program after review and approval of their credentials.
Upon successful completion of the program requirements, the Teacher Education program administrator at the UVa College at Wise will recommend candidates to the Virginia Department of Education for eligibility for the PreK-12 Library Media endorsement.
