On Grounds Students

Welcome to the video classroom. Here you are participating in a unique class where some of your classmates are joining you in rooms many miles away. There are a couple things we want to point out to you.

Note: the following information was developed specifically for students using Thornton Hall video classrooms A119 and A120 as well as the Zehmer Hall Annex video classroom. While general issues discussed apply to all Virginia Distance Learning programs the specifics such as the availability of video streaming and videotapes may not apply to all programs.

MICROPHONES:

The microphones on the tables allow off-grounds students to hear the discussion in the classroom. Please push and hold down where indicated and speak into the microphone when you wish to contribute to the discussion or ask the professor a question. Your consideration in this request is appreciated and is an enormous help in making the off grounds students feel a part of the class. Remember:

  • push pad down and speak gently but firmly
  • speak directly into the microphone

VIDEOTAPES:

If videotapes are available for your program they are housed in the tape library in the control booth. If you must miss a class or wish to review material you are welcome to check out the tape. These tapes are to be returned within 24 hours to allow other students the opportunity to view the material too. Keeping tapes longer than 24 hours will jeopardize your privilege to check them out.

Tapes may be checked out or returned anytime there are no classes or unscheduled pre-tapes in session. The schedule is posted on the control room door. If you find a sign that a pre-tape is in session, please do not interrupt the engineer or enter the classroom. We appreciate your cooperation.

STREAMING VIDEO:

Some classes may be available via streaming video. Check with your professor to find if your class is available. Your professor will have the URL.

If you have problems with the streaming video please send a message to: dvideo@virginia.edu
