Mike Alvarez
Chief Mike Alvarez, MA, BS
Mike Alvarez is a Chief with the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the largest state law enforcement agency in the nation. In this capacity, he oversees the CHP’s Departmental Affairs Division and serves as the agency’s EEO Officer. Chief Alvarez holds a Bachelor of Science from UCLA and a Master of Arts from the Naval Postgraduate School. In addition, he is currently a doctoral student at Pepperdine University.
Chief Alvarez has completed the USC Price and Safe Communities Institute Executive Leadership Program; he also has an Executive Leadership Certificate from Cornell University. He is an adjunct professor at a local community college and a visiting scholar at USC Price Center on National Defense and Public Safety. Recently, Chief Alvarez was recognized by UCLA and awarded the 2025 Bruin Excellence in Civic Engagement award.
