Scholarship Provides Opportunities for New BIS Students

A one-time scholarship up to $2500 will be awarded for Spring 2018

August 15, 2017

The School of Continuing and Professional Studies at the University of Virginia announces a one-time scholarship for incoming students to the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) degree completion program. The UVA BIS Dean’s Scholarship will award up to $2,500 to individuals who apply by November 1, 2017 and are accepted for Spring 2018 admission.

“Our mission is to provide access and affordability for those seeking a UVA degree on a part-time basis,” says Interim Dean Steve Laymon. “This scholarship assists nontraditional students interested in pursuing a quality, yet affordable UVA education.”

Individuals who submit an application to BIS by November 1 and are accepted for admission for Spring 2018 will be considered. A separate scholarship application is not required. Scholarship recipients will be selected based on their BIS application essay, as well as the overall strength of their application in demonstrating potential for success in the program. Individuals must be Virginia residents, or be eligible for in-state educational privileges.

The BIS is an adult degree completion program for individuals looking to complete a UVA degree on a part-time basis.  Classes are offered online or in the evenings in Charlottesville and Richmond, as well as at community colleges in Alexandria, Loudoun, Virginia Beach, and Williamsburg. Students can select from concentrations in Business, Health Care Management, IT, Liberal Arts, and an Individualized concentration.
