Artificial intelligence is already reshaping possibilities and risks for government agencies. Public sector professionals are invited to register for a new, online six-week professional learning experience hosted by UVA’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies, Virginia Institute of Government, and School of Data Science.
In six weekly live Zoom sessions, participants will strengthen how they communicate with stakeholders about using—or not using—AI to deliver public value. Guided Canvas discussions and curated resources will deepen discussions about sustaining public trust and align AI use with organizational principles and priorities.
Created for government and public sector professionals in HR, public safety, planning and more, this learning community offers rich peer-to-peer dialogue and session materials that unpack strategic and ethical questions related to AI use. You will leave with practical insights, new resources, and a stronger network—ready to engage in AI conversations with members of your organization or community.

The course begins March 30, 2026, and meets weekly on Thursdays from Noon to 1:00 pm, EST.
What to Expect
Both Live and Asynchronous Online Sessions: Most of the content is asynchronous—featuring short videos, podcasts, articles, and real-world case studies you can explore on your own schedule. Participation includes a weekly, one-hour online live session to deepen discussion and peer engagement. Together, we will dive into real-world examples and applied case studies, share policies and tools, and learn from each other’s challenges and successes. You can simply notify your facilitators if you need to miss a session.
Assignments: Your participation includes completing weekly discussion posts, responding to discussion posts from peers, and a modest final project or proposal of your choosing relevant to your profession.
Gain Insight and Awareness: Complete the program with added practical insights, new resources, and a stronger network—ready to help your organization use AI-powered tools to deliver public value and minimize AI risks.

The cost to participate is $349.
