This year, UVA's School of Continuing and Professional Studies' inaugural Day of Giving draws inspiration from the first class of SCPS Alumni Ambassadors—a group whose spirit, service, and pride have sparked a new tradition. To honor their first year, the "Krewe of Hoos" has created a signature symbol: the Hoos Mask.
From the Ambassadors’ shared experiences at Mardi Gras, the mask blends festivity with meaning. Its design is inspired by the Great Horned Owl, a powerful and iconic creature found throughout Virginia. Known for its strength, wisdom, and unmistakable presence, the owl reflects the alumni community’s own educational journey—one defined by curiosity, determination, and the drive to rise high and reach their goals.
Each mask is more than a decorative piece; it is a handcrafted symbol of connection. Masks are carefully hand‑traced, cut and assembled by the Alumni Ambassadors themselves, transforming simple materials into a vibrant emblem of connection and pride. Their work symbolizes the heart of the SCPS alumni family: giving and supportive to shape the path for future learners.
For this Day of Giving, which will span from noon on February 3 - noon on February 4, 2026, the Hoos Mask stands as a celebration of where our alumni have been, what they have achieved and the bright future they continue to build together.
How You Can Engage in Our First Day of Giving
Join us in-person!
SCPS students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members are invited to join us in-person as we celebrate the first Day of Giving:
- February 3, 11 am - 3 pm at UVA's Northern Virginia Fairfax Campus
- February 4, 10 am - 12 pm at 2420 Old Ivy Road, Charlottesville
Registration is not required - feel free to drop by for food, drinks and connection!

Ready to Receive a Mask?
To receive a mask, make a $250 or more gift to the school during our Day of Giving. Donations directly support scholarships for adult learners, curricular innovation and community programs.
