UVA School of Continuing and Professional Studies Extends Measures to Relieve Financial Pressure on Students
July 30, 2020 – The University of Virginia’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies will waive application fees for all undergraduate and certificate programs this fall, a continuation of measures implemented in the spring to assist students who may be facing financial hardship.
The school will also allow additional time for students to pay fall tuition, encourage students to use the University’s tuition payment plan, and refund application fees already paid by applicants for the upcoming spring 2021 term.
The full text of the recent message to students explaining the changes:
The School of Continuing and Professional Studies remains committed to supporting students who may be experiencing financial hardship due to the coronavirus pandemic. To that end, we are modifying our tuition payment policy to provide additional time for students to pay their tuition, waiving application fees for new degree and certificate students, and encouraging students to be aware of UVA’s Semester Payment Plan.
Students in degree and certificate programs at SCPS now have up to 45 days after registering for fall 2020 classes to make their payments. The payment extension does not apply to third-party payments, such as employer-paid tuition. Note that students may continue to receive automated system notifications about payment due dates; these are advisory notifications for communicating student account information, and late fees will not be charged.
In addition, all SCPS students have the option to sign up for UVA’s Semester Payment Plan. This is an optional, interest-free semester-based payment plan that enables students to spread their tuition payments over 3, 4, or 5 months. Students enroll in a payment plan by logging into UVAPay and selecting the Payment Plans tab. The deadline to enroll in the 3-month plan for fall 2020 ends August 5, 2020. For more information see the Semester Payment Plan on the Student Financial Services website.
SCPS will also waive all application fees for degree and graduate certificate applicants for the spring 2021 term, before the application deadline of November 1. Applicants for spring 2021 who have already paid the fee will have it refunded to them.
Finally, we’d like to remind you that the University has moved the opening of course registration from August 4 to August 14.
