Rooted in the UVA liberal arts tradition, the BIS degree offers a broad interdisciplinary education that prepares students to build their careers, advance in their current jobs or pursue graduate studies. Regardless of their area of concentration, BIS students strengthen highly desirable skills in critical thinking, communication, problem solving, team work, analytical reasoning, and time management.
Students bring in between 45-60 credits to the program and take the remainder of their coursework with UVA through a mix of online courses.
BPHM is an online program for those who want to advance into leadership roles in healthcare settings. The curriculum consists of general education, health science technical requirements and electives, major core requirements, and advanced (restricted) electives.
Students enter the program with 45-60 transferable credits. After admission students earn at least 60 credits for the degree at the University of Virginia.
Many of our students are working adults who take classes on a part-time basis. Students average three years to complete the program, and they have some flexibility to manage their workloads. Certain BIS concentrations, such as Liberal Arts, allow students to accelerate that timeline. Due to the rigor of our degree programs, we recommend that students only pursue an accelerated schedule when they can devote a substantial amount of time each semester to their coursework. Students must complete the program within seven years of beginning with SCPS.
All Germanna students are welcome to apply to UVA SCPS through regular admission, if they are not eligible for or interested in pursuing early admission.
In recent years, our graduates have earned master’s, law and doctorate degrees from prestigious universities across Virginia and the country, including Columbia University, College of William & Mary, Georgetown, George Mason, James Madison, Syracuse, University of California at Berkeley, University of Virginia, and Virginia Tech.
