Overview
The National Criminal Justice Command College is a distinguished program for mid-to-upper-level law enforcement leaders from across the country. Focused on leadership, innovation and collaboration, the NCJCC inspires students to challenge traditional assumptions and provides an integrated, forward-looking approach to solving contemporary public safety challenges.
Developed in partnership with state-level police leadership from Virginia State Police, Colorado Highway Patrol, Illinois State Police, Arizona Department of Public Safety, California Highway Patrol, New Jersey State Police and academic leaders, this executive education experience is distinct from other leadership courses in its focus on statewide operations, inter-jurisdictional coordination, policy influence, and large-scale command strategy.
We welcome law enforcement professionals from across the nation to join this extended program, offered through an online and in-person hybrid format.
Format and Delivery
Students will take five courses in a hybrid model, including:
- Two eight-week virtual courses
- Three in-residence sessions (two weeks each), two of which will be hosted by a state police organization, with the final session hosted by Virginia State Police. Each of the in-residences will be held in a different region of the country to ensure accessibility and a range of contexts:
- West Coast: foundational leadership, innovation and organizational strategy
- Central U.S.: interagency coordination, change management, critical incident command and systems-based approaches
- East Coast: executive decision-making, emerging technologies and public accountability
Students will experience practical, scenario-based learning with thought leadership from experienced law enforcement executives, university faculty, and national-level practitioners.
Program Completion

Upon completion, graduates will receive an undergraduate or graduate certificate from the University of Virginia, depending on their level of coursework, and will earn 15 undergraduate or 15 graduate-level credits.
NCJCC graduate credits are transferrable into UVA’s Master of Public Safety (MPS) program, meeting half of the program requirements for a UVA MPS degree.
Undergraduate level credits are transferrable into UVA’s Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) program.
