Melissa M. Lubin
Melissa M. Lubin, Ph.D., is the Dean of the School of Continuing and Professional Studies at University of Virginia. In this role, she oversees a continuum of learning that serves the needs of adult learners, including online and off-Grounds graduate and undergraduate degrees and certificates, career catalyst credential programs and customized professional programs. Melissa serves as a university champion for linking the needs of business, government, community and education through expanding collaboration and public-private partnerships. She is a “practitioner-scholar” who infuses an entrepreneurial spirit to her work in the academy.
Previously, Melissa served as the Chief Economic Engagement Officer and Founding Dean of the School of Professional & Continuing Education at James Madison University. Prior to JMU, Melissa was Virginia Tech’s director of the Commonwealth Campus Centers in Richmond, Newport News and Virginia Beach. She is an International Coaching Federation-credentialed coach, a master practitioner of the MBTI and certified in the EQi and DRiV assessments. Melissa has held leadership roles in the private sector, including the Apollo Group, Circuit City Inc., and This End Up Furniture.
Melissa earned a Ph.D. in Adult Learning and Human Resource Development from Virginia Tech, an MBA from Georgia Southern University, and a Bachelor of General Studies degree from Armstrong State College. Melissa and her husband Neil have a son, D.C. who is a senior at James Madison University. They share their home with a Siamese cat (Gilligan) and a mini-Australian Shepherd (Taylor) and enjoy spending personal time relaxing and boating on the Chesapeake Bay.
