Richard Floyd
Richard Floyd has a Ph.D. in modern history from Washington University in St. Louis. His book Church, Chapel, and Party examines political controversies that divided a powerful state church from religious dissenters who sought equality in 19th-century England, and his chapter in History, Nationhood, and the Question of Britain considers questions of an English “race” through to the present day. In addition to original scholarship, he has co-authored a recent textbook, Islands and Empire: A History of Modern Britain; contributed to reference works on social, military and other fields of history; and written reviews for various journals and presses. He teaches a range of classes that explore history as both a Humanity and a Social Science.
